The unit takes 3 AAA batteries that are included and will run the flashlight or lantern for over 80 continuous hours. The flashlight/lantern has a simple twist to ON or OFF. To use the lantern slide the head of the flashlight in the opposite direction while firmly holding the base in place. The lantern will stand on any flat surface. When changing the batteries you will need to line up the battery cartridge so it slides easily into the flashlight/lantern. The flashlight/ lantern measures in at 4.4 inches closed (5 inches open) with a 1 inch diameter.
